KOOL BOY from the West Coast Hoodbotic Poplockers @CalisBestRadio 4/11/2018

Over 30 years ago Kool Boy was determined to make a career from the art of pop lock. Throughout the years he has made his living from doing just that. Kool Boy is the most featured pop locker in West Coast rap video’s. He has performed in over 50 music videos by artists such as Snoop Dogg, DJ Quik, Badd Lucc, Big Wy, the Def Tones, Dubb C of the Westside Connection, and reggae legend Pato Benton. He has appeared on stage with artists such as Suga Free, DJ Quik, Lakeside, and Afro Man. In July 2008 Kool Boy made history by being the first dancer to win at the West Coast Hip Hop Awards.

He has worked as a choreographer on Snoop Dogg’s After Dark show which was featured on MTV and taught dance classes/workshops throughout Southern California. In 2011 he created a cardio dance class call Funk Fitness that he has taught in various locations. Some of his other accomplishments are writing, recording, directing and producing his own rap songs for pop lockers. In 2008-2009 he produced, directed, and hosted a show called Pop-Lock T.V. which aired on Compton cable channel 28.

Kool Boy has successfully organized events, dance/rap battles, and hosted shows pertaining to the art of street dance. In 2009 he was internationally recognized and featured in a full page article in Germany’s BackSpin Magazine. Kool Boy not only credits pop locking as his way of livelihood, but acclaims it to be what kept him in a positive and productive route while growing up in the gang infested streets of Compton Ca. He has dedicated himself to given back to the communities. He has offered dance classes and studio sessions at reasonable to no cost for the youth who were looking for guidance and mentoring.

In November 2011 he was honored a certificate of appreciation from the city of Los Angeles by L.A. City Council Eric Garcetti. It recognized his efforts in reaching out to the youth with his artistry to empower their dreams and goals. Kool Boy comes from a time when genuine street beef and disagreements were settled by dance battle, not gun wars.

With consistency and determination it is one of Kool Boy’s aspirations to instill this peaceful way of settling dispute amongst our youth. Kool Boy carries the torch for pop locking and has never gone into hiatus. Currently he has seven DVD’s of his own in circulation that features him performing with many legendary West Coast rap artists. Ultimately Kool Boy would like to one day make a feature length movie about the true essence of pop lock.
