Russian born, Oleg Lee, better known as “That Pillow Guy”, has become an internationally-renowned success story. After dropping out of High School, Lee moved to Chicago to pursue the American Dream. The move was a huge gamble. Lee did not speak a word of English and had not one friend or family member in the entire country. He took a job as a maintenance man at a grocery store which earned him just over $20,000 per year, and in Chicago, that was well below the poverty line. Soon he met his wife and her career as a bank teller made a combined income that was just enough to pay the bills.
In 2015, disaster struck twice in their home. They both lost their jobs due to company layoffs. They had no money, no savings, no income, and no one to turn to for help. For food, they would walk to the nearby gas station and purchase Ramen Noodle Soup. Lee would spend his days filling out job applications and his nights thinking of ways to get out of their life of poverty. Then, disaster struck again. He received a call from his mother and she informed his that his beloved family dog had passed away. Lee did everything with that dog throughout his childhood, and now all he had left was a photo of him.
Lee took that photo of his dog and thought if he made a pillow of him, he’d be able to hold it whenever he wanted too. He found a local company to print the photo on material and his father took the fabric, filled it with cotton, and stitched it together. Lee posted the pillow on social media and was flooded with comments of how others wanted the same thing because they had a similar story with their pets.
Soon Lee began taking orders and payments and was known online as “That Pillow Guy”. In 2016 he called his company Life Like Pillows and he made his first million in less than a year! Since then the company has experienced 100% growth each year
He is now the world’s most famous custom pillow creator. The pillows have been featured on TV shows such as The View, Good Morning America, and FOX and have been featured on the website of Daymond John (Shark Tank) and Business Insider. After this media blitz, That Pillow Guy was making pillows for major brands like MTV, AT&T, Red Bull, DreamWorks, CNN and Facebook and also major celebrities such as Snoop Dogg, The Game, Rick Ross, Lil Dicky, and boxers Miguel Cotto and Vasyl Lomachenko.
Today, Life Like Pillows can be found in stores at Walmart and major retail websites for Bed Bath & Beyond, Nordstrom, Home Depot, Amazon, Overstock, Wayfair, Groupon and many more. The success in retail space came from Oleg’s tremendous work ethic and persistence to get his product on the shelves.
After becoming a multi-millionaire, That Pillow Guy has become dedicated to giving back to those less fortunate. Over the past three years he has given thousands of pillows away to homeless children, hurricane victims, and people in need.
